Indo Paper Mache Vase
Indo Paper Mache Vase
The Indo Paper Mache Vase is handcrafted from sustainable papier mâché and has a buff coloured limewash-like matte finish. We love the organic feel this piece adds, it’s double looped handles on each side adding a sense of primitive style. We make it from recycled newspaper that’s mixed with water then chalk and tree sap crystals are added to turn the substance into a clay-like material. The pulp is kneaded into chapati-like forms, then rolled and moulded into the sculptural objects we love. There is no firing, no power used, and the process is entirely eco-friendly. Each piece will have subtle differences in finish and these variations are part of the handmade appeal. Porous in nature, papier maché should not be exposed to liquids.

Wabi Sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfections. At Hibou Design & Co. we've always believed that even the most contemporary projects never really feel like home until we incorporate accents that bring a sense of history to the space. This is why we travel to the corners of our province to source original antiques and curate imported goods that are hand-made, one-of-a-kind originals. A lot of these pieces are made by artisans using traditional methods passed down from generation to generation. Each piece from our Wabi-Sabi Collection is unique and has a story.
